Geography at Kingsley
Our Geography Curriculum
At Kingsley Community Primary and Nursery School, our Geography curriculum is enquiry-led, progressive and rooted in curiosity. Beginning with children’s understanding of their own school, home and local area, children gradually build their knowledge of the UK and the wider world through our themes of Our Country, Our World and Physical Geography. Across the curriculum, children explore human and physical geography, ask and investigate geographical questions, make connections and develop an understanding of how people, places and environments are interconnected. Learning is brought to life through the use of maps, atlases, globes, photographs, data, practical activities and fieldwork, with local studies providing opportunities for children to apply their knowledge in meaningful contexts. Geographical vocabulary, knowledge and skills are carefully revisited and developed as children move through the school, enabling them to become curious, knowledgeable and confident young geographers. Ultimately, we want every child to develop a fascination with the world around them and understand how they can play their part in inspiring positive futures for people, places and our planet.
Fieldwork at Kingsley
Geographical Fieldwork
Fieldwork brings Geography to life. At Kingsley, children have opportunities to explore and investigate the world around them, developing their geographical knowledge through first-hand experiences. From exploring our school grounds and local area to carrying out observations, collecting information, using maps and asking geographical questions, children learn to notice, investigate and make sense of their surroundings. Our local area provides a valuable starting point for developing geographical skills that children can apply to places and environments further afield.
