Design & Technology at Kingsley

Kingsley’s design and technology curriculum begins in Early Years, where children explore simple mechanisms, construction, cookery and early problem‑solving through hands‑on experiences. As pupils move into KS1 and KS2, this learning broadens and deepens through sequenced units covering moving mechanisms, cookery and nutrition, and—by KS2—textiles, allowing practical skills to develop progressively. Across all phases, pupils follow a clear design process: researching and investigating existing products, designing with purpose, making using appropriate tools and techniques, and evaluating their outcomes thoughtfully. This approach builds strong DT knowledge and technical skills while also nurturing essential life skills such as teamwork, communication and collaboration, as children work together on meaningful projects
