Maple 2019 - 2020

Mrs Hargreaves

Welcome to the Summer term!

Mrs Hargreaves

For those of you that don't know, teaching has been a much-anticipated aspiration of mine, so after spending several joyful (albeit eventful!) years in an Early Years setting, I decided to take the plunge and embark upon a career in teaching. Consequently, I completed my Primary Education degree at the University of Chester, achieving a first class honours and being awarded Student Teacher of the Year 2018 at the Cheshire School Awards! Outside of school, I love spending time with my four-year-old son, Zachary (I'm sure your child will fill you in on our latest adventures, they seem to love nothing more than hearing about them!)

Summer Term!

Wow! What a fun-filled and action-packed Spring term, who knew we had a class full of budding actors and actresses!

I can't wait to embark upon the Summer term with my amazing superstars! I have no doubt that Maple class will continue to blow my socks off with their commitment to learning and perserverance, or as we like to call it, the Maple spirit!

If, for any reason, you need to speak to me then please don’t hesitate to catch me at the classroom door at the start or end of the day, or speak to the office to arrange and appointment to see me.

Below is some information that you may require during your child’s time in Maple.

Class Apacas!

We are lucky enough to have not one but two class pets, our rainbow alpacas, Max and Candyfloss! Each Friday I will select a child for Mrs. Hargreaves’ Superstar of the Week, and they will receive a medal and an alpaca for a weekend sleepover! I will also select a runner-up to take home the remaining alpaca! Please ensure that your child returns the alpaca and medal on the following Monday.

Kingsley Journals

Please ensure that these are brought into school on a daily basis, as this will be the main form of contact between school and home. Please also find your child's weekly spellings and weekly guided reading homeworks in their journals.

Homework can be found in your child's journal in the form of a 'Homework Menu'.

In addition, weekly homework for Team Maple is:

  • Weekly spellings - spelling tests are carried out on a Monday morning.
  • Daily reading for pleasure - I have attached a fabulous book list below if you’re in need of good book ideas!
  • Guided reading homework - this will be set when I do a guided read with your child (on the same day each week / your child will be able to inform you of this day). Your child will have one week to complete it.
  • Times tables quiz - these will be carried out 3 times a week. Please ensure that your child uses the 'TT Rockstars' app regularly to increase their speed and accuracy.
  • MyMaths tasks can be accessed by logging in at

Optional homework: Bug Club

Your child has the login and passwords in their journals.  I have allocated texts for your children to read.  This is not compulsory and is for children to enjoy books pitched at their reading level.

Please ensure that PE kits are kept in for the whole week.  PE will take place on a  Monday and Thursday (both outdoor). Trainers will also be needed each day for the daily mile.
