Sycamore 2021 - 2022
Hello Sycamore class and welcome back to a new and exciting year,
This year I am so excited to be working alongside the fabulous Mrs Mills with such an amazing group of children. Having worked across the corridor from you last year, I was thoroughly excited to get the opportunity to be your teacher this year and have a wonderful year together.
We have lots of interesting work lined up for you across the year but to begin with, we have picked out a number of our favourites to get the minds' thinking and the ideas flowing.
In Literacy, we will be using Gorilla to delve in to the world of Anthony Browne and help us write detailed narratives focussing on clever uses of fronted adverbials. Beyond half-term, we will start to explore the magical world of 'Leon and the place between'. This book has some of the most stunning uses of illustrations that i have ever come across. I have read this lots of times to my own boys and they love pausing to really study the pictures. They seem to find something new each time they read it.
In Maths, like all years, we start as always with place value before moving swiftly to our times table facts. From here, we shall explore Roman Numerals briefly, before delving in to Addition and Subtraction using mental strategies and then more formal written methods.
As the Maths lead at Kingsley, obviously I love Maths intensely, but I must stress the importance of you keeping up your times table knowledge out of school. We only have a short period of time in school together to learn our times tables so it is vitally important that out of school you really push yourselves to learn as many times tables up to 12 x 12.
TT Rockstar, and in particular the 'Soundcheck' option will give you vital practice ready for the very special times table national test you shall be taking part in come June/July. You will have 25 questions and 6 seconds per question to complete on a computer. The more practice you put in, the better you will do on the day!
Outside of Maths and Literacy, all of our other activities/topics can be located on the school website under the 'Curriculum' tab of the website. This will give you details throughout the year.
If at any time you need to ask a question or have any issues, please do not hesitate to contact myself or Mrs Mills.
